New Library and Village Office Building

August 27, 2019

The new Stratton Library and Village Office building is planned to began construction this fall. Please stay tuned for updates for ground breaking and events during the process working up to the doors opening!

August 27, 2019

The budget on the new building is set at a total cost of $576,773. This amount includes the building site work, architectural fees, administration and construction management fees as well as the substructure, shell, interiors and services to the building. A CDBG grant was awarded in the amount of $385,000 for the Library. The Village applied for and was generously awarded $85,000 from the Hansen Charitable Foundation for the matching funds for the CDBG grant. We are in the process of applying for more grants and planning fundraising events for the remaining balance for the Village Office. The total needed to date is $106,773.

The old shop building that was located at the proposed site has been removed and the ground is being prepped and tested for construction of the new building. Design plans have been finalized and details are being discussed for interior styles.

September 16, 2019

Final design has been approved by the Village Board. Bids will be accepted soon and opened at the October Board meeting.

October 8, 2019

A fundraiser has been planned for October 26th from 3-5pm (the same night of the Recreation Club Soup supper and Haunted House). Keep an eye out for information around town for the Kiss a Pig Contest or come to the office to support the "winner". There will also be a chance to play Cow Patty Bingo. Pick your favorite book title for your chance on the bingo board. Kids of all ages can have their face painted, bob for apples, cake walk or take a ride in the bucket truck. Floor plans will be on display. Come have a good time and a scare at all the festivities for the day!

November 4, 2019

The fundraiser was a successes! There was $871.34 raised for this event and lots of fun had by many. Roemello Grier was the lucky winner of the Kiss the Pig contest and despite the cow not wanting to participate we had a winner of Brad Forch for the Cow Patty Bingo. Many kids came and enjoyed rides, games and treats. Thank you for supporting us and we look forward to planning more fun events in the future.

November 21, 2019

After many planning sessions and options being considered the floor plans have been altered to cut back on expenses for the new building. Advertisements for bids will be out in the near future and bids will be opened in February. We are getting closer to seeing our goal become a reality! Keep your eye out for fundraising events and more information on the building.

January 30, 2020

Bids for construction are being accepted now until February 18. More information on ground breaking will be available after this date. If you want to see your name in the new building or just want to help out you can purchase a donor plaque now at the Village Office.

March 2, 2020

The board accepted a bid from Steele Roofing & Construction for construction of the new building. More information will be available soon on anticipated start date.

April 28, 2020

The footings from the previous building have been completely removed. Dirt work is being completed and readying the ground for the new building. While funding is still coming in from outside sources the Board has postponed local fundraising activities due to COVID-19 restrictions.

May 28, 2020

Walls have been going up this week! The new building is starting to take shape and we are all super excited to see the progress that is happening.

July 9, 2020

After a set back due to the high winds early last month we are back on schedule and everything is looking good! Shingles are on and we have an entry awning. Remaining funding is being secured although we are still looking for donations and love to see the community support. A current list of the donors can be found under the article regarding the Donor Book Plaques.

August 7, 2020

Another grant was awarded for the building project. This grant is from the Graft Foundation and is a one-to-one matching grant up to $10,000. In order to take full advantage of this generous grant the Village will be raising some of the matching funds with a poker run. The event is set to take place on September 12, 2020. Watch for more information to come or contact the Village Office to volunteer to help or send donations for prizes.

September 15, 2020

The "Ride for Reading" Poker Run Event was a huge success! Over $2300 was made during the event. With the matching funds from the Graft Foundation this brings in a total of $4600 to go towards the new building. 36 bikes were registered and took part in the ride. Once back in town there was a free will donation, 50-50 raffle and silent auction. Everyone had a great time and were very generous with their donations. A special thanks goes out to all the venders who donated or volunteered their services to help make the event happen and fun for all.

November 30, 2020

Curb side soup and sneak peak event was a success! Almost $850 was raised during this event and almost 80 bowls of soup were served. If you missed the sneak peak or would still like to give a donation contact the Village Office or any Library Board member. We are still waiting on the finishing touches to be finished on the building but are looking forward to moving into the new building very soon!

December 21, 2020

The Village Office is all moved into the new building. The shelving is being put in the new bookcases in the Library and they hope to move in after the holiday's. We are all super excited about the move and hope that you can all come visit soon! We would also like to give a huge THANK YOU to all the individuals, groups, companies and foundations that have helped support us to make this project possible.
