Save $ on Heating and Cooling Bills

It’s a FACT: Weatherization Works!  Since its founding in 1976, U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) has provided weatherization services to more than 7 million low-income families. It is a record of service that benefits our nation by reducing our energy dependency, improving the environment, and stimulating economic development in low-income communities. Through this program, weatherization service providers install energy efficiency measures in the homes of qualifying homeowners free of charge. These are not expensive upgrades—the average expenditure limit is $8,487.32 per home—but they are effective, and energy savings pay for the upgrades within a few years.

Community Action Partnership of Mid-Nebraska administers funds for the WAP. The Mission of WAP is to reduce energy costs for low-income families, particularly the elderly, people with disabilities, and children, while safeguarding their health and safety.

Weatherization Includes…

  •

furnace & water heater inspection (if found unsafe can be repaired or replaced)
    • adding insulation in attics and walls
    • attic ventilation
    • insulating crawl spaces
    • installing water heater jackets
    • insulating water heater pipes
    • weather-stripping & caulking around doors, windows, and general heat waste areas
    • repairing broken windows and doors (possibly replacing them, if determined cost effective by the National Energy Audit)

    1. Weatherization is conducted on homes that are Owned or Rented (with/landlord permission)-they can be Frame or Mobile.

How it Works:  1) customer fills out an application  2) customer is notified of eligibility via an approval or denial letter 3) if eligible, when the customer’s name is at the top of our waiting list, the WAP office will call to set up an initial inspection of the home to determine what work we can do 4) weatherization work is completed  by either Mid’s in-house crew or sent out to a pre-qualified contractor 5) once the work is completed it is inspected to ensure it meets applicable federal standards.
