May 27, 2021 Special Meeting
June 29, 2021
A meeting of the Stratton Village Board of Trustees was held on Monday May 27, 2021 at 7:00 pm CT at the Village Clerk’s Office. Notice of the meeting was posted and availability of the agenda was communicated in the advance notice. A poster of the “Open Meetings Act” was clearly visible on the wall, and Chairman J. McDonald directed the attention of those present to the poster. All proceedings hereafter shown occurred while the meeting was in session. Present: Chairman J. McDonald, Trustee J. Griffiths, Trustee M. McDonald, Superintendent K. League and Clerk T. Hedrick.
The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm.
OPEN FORUM: Trustee M. McDonald announced to the Board of Trusties and to the Village that he would like to apologize for his recent behavior regarding the impoundment of a dog.
Trustee J. Griffiths inquired about the sidewalk repairs needing completed by Howard Street. The barricade is causing a nuisance and a safety concern to those patrons of local businesses in the area. Superintendent League stated that they are still waiting on the company to find time to come complete the cement pour at this location and in front of the Village Office. Trustee M. McDonald stated that he could pour the cement by Howard Street but didn’t feel comfortable with doing the pour by the Village Office building. Superintendent League and Trustee M. McDonald will work out a time to complete the repairs early next week.
Motion by T. Jones and second by J. Griffiths to approve the previous minutes. Roll call: Ayes: M. McDonald, J. Griffiths, J. McDonald. S. Hanes and T. Jones. Nays: None. Motion Carried.
NEW BUSINESS:
Motion by T. Jones and second by M. McDonald to hire Tanner McLain, Peyon Rife, Eduardo Enriquez and Jayden League as swimming pool lifeguards for the 2021 season. Roll call: Ayes: M. McDonald, J. Griffiths, J. McDonald. S. Hanes and T. Jones. Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Discussion was made regarding funding for future years to increase the starting wages for pool employees. Clerk Hedrick will look into grant requests and more discussion will be had during the budget workshop.
Motion by M. McDonald and second by S. Hanes to hire certified lifeguards at $9.00 per hour, assistant pool manager at $9.50 per hour and pool manager at $10.00 per hour. Roll call: Ayes: M. McDonald, J. Griffiths, J. McDonald. S. Hanes and T. Jones. Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Motion by T. Jones and second by S. Hanes to hire employees prior to obtaining lifeguard certification for maintenance of park and recreation at $8.00 per hour. Roll call: Ayes: M. McDonald, J. Griffiths, J. McDonald. S. Hanes and T. Jones. Nays: None. Motion Carried.
Motion made by M. McDonald and second by S. Hanes to adjourn the meeting at 7:35pm. Roll call: Ayes: M. McDonald, J. Griffiths, J. McDonald. Nays: None. Absent: S. Hanes and T. Jones. Motion Carried.
The next regular meeting of the Village Board of Trustees will be held on Monday June 21, 2021 at 7:00 pm at the Village Office.
